1 out of 5 stars Needs more testing!   March 17, 2010
Mr. B. T. Staniford
This game was completely spoiled for me by appalling technical difficulties. I write computer device drivers for a living and play games alot so I'm well capable of exploring every possibility for getting a game working. I have two machines with two different graphics cards and "The Sims 3" crashed constantly on both machines. Both these machines well exceeded the specs published on the box. I tried to return the game but found that of course these days, PC games can only be returned if the disc is physically damaged not if the game just doesn't work as designed. I tried to sell the game second hand to recoup some of the money I'd spent on this poorly tested waste of a game but of course, because the game utilises evil anti piracy software (which only affect honest users because actual pirates can trivially work round them of course) the game couldn't be resold. EA's technical support simply consists of a preium line phone automated phone service which you'd be crazy to use.

All in all, I will never buy another EA game, I suspect you get much better service from the pirates on the internet that you do from this dodgy organisation who take your money and run after selling you a lemon.

2 out of 5 stars I should have listened....   March 16, 2010

I read all of the reviews and thought to myself maybe you all were being too critical, so I decided to buy the game despite how many reviews I have read. WRONG! OMG, it is the worst game from EA I have ever bought.

Like every other people said, it is a complete different from the Sims 1 and 2. The sim whom I created looks completely different from when I made it. The neighborhood looks great but... can't modify it like I used to on the Sims 1 and 2. Oh and even I paused the game while building the stupid house... the other sims still aging (wtf?) The only good thing about the building feature is that you are able to build a fully function basement w/o using any cheats. I can almost never look at the house straight, meaning the camera view is always at an angle... Basically, in all 3 sims games, the sims 2 seems to be the best game ever and the sims 3 is the worst one ever!

The aging off and story progression off button are not working so don't even think about it.

Don't buy it if you want to waste your money for something you would get bored after 1 try. This game should not be named the Sims 3. The game has 80% control over everything leaving you with 20% control where in the other sims 1 and 2, you basically has almost the ultimate power over your sims and the neighborhood.

This game is awesome, and the process of purchase was perfect. Everything on time and well received. Excellent.

2 out of 5 stars Simply not in the spirit of its predecessors.   February 28, 2010

I really, really wanted to like The Sims 3. I've been a hardcore Simmer since the release of The Sims, and I had faith that this game would not be a let down.

However, The Sims 3 lacks a soul. In order for the game to be playable, you have to download a ton of mods. Without the mods, the Sims are dull, shapeless, and uniform in appearance. "Pudding-faced" as the modding community calls it. While the previous Sims games were very mod-friendly, this new incarnation is not. Not only do you have to spend hours trying to get your game to work after each and every update, but EA appears to go out of their way to make game customization next to impossible.

Since getting the game six months ago, I've had to uninstall and reinstall at least five times. I never had to do that with the previous two games.

To make matters worse, if you can finally get you game to work, it's sort of...boring. It lacks in sim-to-sim interaction, and has no humanity.

Save your money and purchase a mega-back of The Sims 2 expansion packs. I wish I hadn't sold mine.

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time or money on this one   February 24, 2010

While Ea promised that this game would be a huge step up, that the gamer would be able to create new and exciting faces, they were being disingenuous. The faces all look like rubber. They should've stuck with the original sims that had realistic faces, like real people.

The "town" that they created, is rabbit hole town. You cannot go into any of the buildings with your sim, nor create any of your own "town" buildings.

They gave less clothing, less furnishings, etc., so that you would have to go to the ea store and buy with real money ( I will not stoop to that level) more items for your game, that should've been incorporated into the game in the first place, as in the original sims. That was EA's best effort by far. (Maxis)But PROFIT obviously is far more important to EA than satisfied customers.

Sims 2 was slow loading just to get into the game. Sims 3 is far worse in loading and slows even more while trying to build and make sims.

This game is not worth the money by any means, and is inferior to the original sims and Sims 2. Ea has mislead its customers and it's a pity that they chose this unrighteous path. Those type of choices never pay in the end.
